69 Variable Refrigerant Flow Indoor Unit The evaporator or indoor unit of a variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system is the part of the heat pump responsible for transferring and rejecting heat an adjacent space. Similar as in a fan coil unit, a build-in fan circulates room air across the evaporator to either heat or cool the indoor air. Heat is transported to or from the space via a refrigerant line that connects to the outside unit or condenser.
